High Cruise Speed
This aircraft was meticulously constructed, in little over a year, by a veteran Inspector Authorized Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (A&P IA) who regularly enjoys flying it. N6116A was assembled at Skybuild close to the headquarters and office of Aerocomp (designers and manufacturers of the kit.) N6116A easily cruises at speeds of 225mph (TAS@21,000ft) with an excellent useful load of 2421lbs. With an insulated 47 1/2” wide cabin, N6116A provides a spacious and quiet ride. The aircraft is a pleasure to fly with perfectly balanced control pressures superior to any certificated aircraft. This Comp Air 8 is extremely versatile in any consequence or situation. Its controllability and flight characteristics are accurate and reliable in any loaded weight configuration or airspeed. You can arrive at your destination refreshed or utilize it as a workhorse. It’s your choice. With its overwhelming cargo area and superb useful load, N6116A can easily swallow and deliver almost anything you can put in it. N6116A has an installed large rear cargo door to load and unload those large bulky items. From the first application of power, N6116A will impress you with the short take off roll and quick rate of climb. The Walter M601D provides a rapid 657 hp to the Avia constant speed prop which launches the aircraft off the ground. Rate of Climb indications of 2000fpm are a normal occurrence at maximum gross weight. The choice of a turbine, for power and reliability, provides a usable range of 700 miles (with reserves) with the installed 160 gallon fuel tanks. As impressive as the takeoff roll is, the phenomenal landing performance is absolutely, “Out of this world.” The airframe is rock solid and easily controllable in all flight aspects, but truly performs when you enter the airport environment at 200+mph and immediately slow the aircraft to 100mph entering the traffic pattern. Awaiting your base leg, you can slow down to 80mph to prepare for final (Stalling speed is 65mph.) At touchdown, you can utilize the Reverse Thrust from the Avia prop and come to a full and complete stop well short of 2000ft! I know it can stop in less distance, but I have not utilized full power in Reverse because I have never needed it. The Avionics Package is a pilots dream. (See Tech Specs) After all of this praise, you may be wondering why we are selling this aircraft. My partner and I had a wonderful time during construction and since its completion we have been missing those wonderful hours spent building. To enjoy ourselves, we have begun construction of another aircraft in the Comp Air family of airplanes. This time we are constructing a Merlin GT with a 100hp Rotax powerplant on amphibious floats. Unfortunately, too many planes in the hangar. Please leave an email if you have questions or are interested in purchasing this unique “Five Star” performer. Airframe / Engine Data
